We are proud to present the 3D printed cockpit for the 1/29 Revell X-Wing Fighter. This is the new improved version 2 of the cockpit we used
on this build. There are very minor changes but these are more than welcome. The front tab circled in red was not available on the previous version. This seems like a minor cosmetic addition, but the fact of the matter is that it helps greatly to accommodate the cockpit giving a point of attachment to the fuselage with CA glue. When I built the X-Wing above I had to improvise with a strip of styrene in small increments until I had the proper size.
The second visible change on the X-wing cockpit is the missing ”hydraulic” shafts behind the pilot’s seat seen her in the 2 smaller circles. These are very delicate and while you play to accommodate the cockpit in place, they are very prone to snap. There’s also the possibility of them snapping of during shipping which I must tell, the folks over at Falcon 3D Parts take great care when packaging your order. However shipping always have a natural risk. I recall snapping mines off during the process and added them later with my curved tweezers and CA glue. Don’t sweat, this can be easily made with Evergreen or K&S tubing. In all honestly, I don’t miss them there at all.
Third major overhaul is behind the pilot’s bulkhead. As you can see from the comparison picture below, the area has been completely closed. That was another area in which I spent sometime playing the guess the size game. So KUDOS to Falcon 3D Parts for this detail.
Another addition to the catalog is the droid socket strip. There are few but nevertheless notable difference. This strip at first glance seems of little importance. But given the fact that The Revell X-Wing is 1/29, this model is big and the strip is closer to the greeblies used on the filming miniatures. I know that this upgrades are adding to the base price of the model kit, but you’re close to the studio scale size without the price of a resin garage kit.
Last but not least is the rear plate. As you can see from the pictures below. This is a 3 sections part. One of the most notable mistakes on the Revell is the lack of the rightful details around the back plate plus the fact that it is exposed. It need to be moved back a couple of millimeters. The detail is crisp on these parts and resemble much more the greeblies of the filming miniature including that front of the Sherman tank. The smallest part of the 3 which is an inside out lower turret part is removable. This means that you can add a mounting point for your model also more in fashion with the filming miniatures.
These parts were researched and developed while I was well into my X-Wing build. I wish I had them back then. But with the help of a good samaritan at the X-Wing Builders Anonymous group on Facebook, I was able to get a second X-Wing for $40 and this parts will be used on a second build.
